At the beginning of October 1895, Sangkana died as a result of a miscarriage. Snouck was inconsolable and wrote, ‘The world has become grey for me and I feel like an old and dull creature.’ Lasmita Kusuma, the wife of the regent of Galuh and Sangkana's aunt, then took care of Snouck's children Emah, Umar, Aminah and Ibrahim.
