In Snouck's last years in the Dutch East Indies, he married Siti Sadijah, also known as ‘Buah’. She was the daughter of the kalipah, the deputy chief penghulu of Bandung Haji Muhammad Su'eb, better known locally as 'Kalipah Apo'. Snouck called her ‘my beloved Sundanese princess’. They had a son, Joesoef, in January 1905 but Snouck left Buah and his children in Java when he returned to the Netherlands. He took out an annuity for each of his children so that they could count on a monthly financial payment once they reached the age of 21.
