Snouck died in his home on the Rapenburg canal in Leiden on the afternoon of Friday, 26 June 1936. His death was kept quiet at his request and he wished to be buried in peace. This took place early on Monday, 29 June at Groenesteeg Cemetery in Leiden. Just before 7.00 am, he was placed in the family grave next to his mother and sisters Catootje and Jacqueline. In Cheribon, Snouck's second wife Buah and her son Joesoef received the news of his death. Buah was devastated by it. There were two widows in two parts of the world who each mourned Snouck's death in their own way.
