It was not just the colonial tourist who sought entertainment in such exclusive hotels as the Grand Hotel Homann, but also the local European elite. They frequently attended both concerts and dinners, lunches and thé dansants with Raisky’s Dance Ensemble or the Homann Trio in this chicest hotel in Bandung (West Java). In the latter part of the twentieth century, Homann was the hotel of choice for travellers on a sentimental journey, hoping to reconnect with their country of birth. In his 1993 novella Bandoeng-Bandung F. Springer poignantly describes how its main character Chris Regensberg is confronted in Bandung with memories he has repressed for decades.
