This VOC-chart of the southern part of the South China Sea is cut in two, possibly by map collector Johannes Tiberius Bodel Nijenhuis to store both parts with other maps of the corresponding regions. The right part, with the Philippines and northern Borneo was only noticed recently. The left part shows the coasts of Vietnam with the cities of ‘Poefoe’ (Phú Xuân) and ‘Faijfol’ (Hội An) prominently indicated. Similar to the previous map, this chart includes Dutch toponyms for some islands, shallow waters (‘droogte’) such as scarborough-rif and islands such as ‘Crabben Eylandt’ (Crabs Island) and Vuyl Eijlandt (Shallow Island). Remarkable is the indication ‘Alhier is de keyserin ver ongeluckt’ ( The Keyserin was built in 1635 by the VOC and was lost in the Bay of Padaran, or Mũi Dinh on October 29th, 1637).
