This map was specially prepared for the journey of A.D.C. de Graeff, the Dutch Governor-General in Batavia. De Graeff traveled to French Indochina and Siam in 1930 after both Indochina and the Netherlands East Indies had been facing violent nationalist and communist revolts. A travel account was written in Dutch by his officer, Lieutenant-Colonel J.W. Stoutjesdijk, who accompanied him on this voyage. The account, map and a photo album illustrate Stoutjesdijk's remarkable views on French Indochina. This trip was a return visit. The official of French Indochina visited Java and Bali in 1929. The Governor-General departed from Batavia on 24 October 1930 and the party officially arrived at Haiphong on 4 November, and ended in Bangkok.
