Most maps in this exhibition zoom in on parts of Asia, mainland Southeast-Asia, Vietnam, or even parts of Vietnam. This map zooms out to the Far East and the Pacific. Kompas publishing house in The Hague was specialized in tourist maps and (pocket) atlases. This large map (71x99 cm) shows the position of French Indochina (in purple) in the context of the Pacific. The map dates from approximately 1939, during the time of the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937-1945). A dotted line shows that the territories in China, occupied by the Japanese, included the southern island of Hainan and reached the Vietnamese border.
