In 1968 the Stichting Medisch Comité Nederland-Vietnam (MCNV; Medical Committee the Netherlands-Vietnam Foundation) was founded. The goal of the committee was large scale aid to the areas in Vietnam that were affected the most during the Vietnam War. Many Dutch felt outraged by the acts of war and donated to this foundation. The aid continued after the war when MCNV was the largest European Vietnam committee. They opened a hospital in Dong Ha in 1977. After the war the foundation battled against tuberculosis and malaria and got involved with microcredit projects for the poorer population, women and aid during natural hazards. MCNV still exists today, with offices in Vietnam, Laos and the Netherlands.
The map published in 1978 was an exact copy of an unknown map published in Vietnam probably before or around 1975 as the legend in Dutch was an translation of the legend in the original Vietnamese map. The map published in 1985 was printed by SSN (Stichting Studentenpers Nijmegen). SSN was founded by the leftwing Student Union in Nijmegen. Contrary to the first map, this map shows an unified Vietnam in which Saigon was labelled ‘Ho Tsji Minh Stad [= city].’ The original legend was not translated.
