Oldest Yemeni manuscript in Leiden
Description
In the ninth and tenth centuries two Zaydi Imamates existed simultaneously, one in Yemen and one near the Caspian Sea in Northern Iran. A Caspian Imam wrote this work on Zaydi doctrine. Zaydi scholars later transmitted it from North Iran to Yemen. This copy of the book was most likely produced in Yemen and belonged to the Imam al-Manṣūr billāh ʿAbdallah b. Ḥamza (d. 1217). This manuscript was acquired by Leiden University from Amīn al-Madanī in 1883 and is the oldest Yemeni manuscript in the collection.
