Scholarship in Zaydi Yemen

< >

Description

Muslim law (fiqh) was one of the central disciplines that scholars in Zaydi Yemen engaged in. This manuscript contains a famous work by a Zaydi scholar, organized as a commentary on an authoritative text of the teachings of Imam al-Hādī ilā-l-ḥaqq, the founder of the Zaydi Imamate in Yemen. The manuscript's margins are filled with additional notes that over time became standardized and acquired their own authority. Knowledge of such texts was required not only of scholars but also of Imams.
