Guards in Hodeidah
Description
Hodeidah was the most important port of the Imamate in the twentieth century. Like other major cities in Yemen, it had its own governor, an appointee of Imam Yaḥyā Ḥamīd al-Dīn. During one of the visits of Adriaanse and Flieringa to Yemen this position was held by Sayyid ʿAbdallāh al-Wazīr, whose guards are shown in this photo. Governors regularly changes cities, and soon this position was handed over to one of the sons of the Imam.
