Description

Yemeni ports were not only stops on the trade routes of the Red Sea and Indian Ocean. They also played an important role for pilgrims traveling to Mecca for the annual pilgrimage, the hajj. In this photo, the port of Hodeidah is celebrating the pilgrims. A parade is held; riding on horse is the governor of the city at the time, one of the sons of Imam Yaḥyā Ḥamīd al-Dīn.
