Arifin Zainal, one of the first tree climbers of herbarium Wanariset (official abbreviation WAN, internationally registered in Index Herbariorum) is climbing a Dipterocarp tree (Meranti family) in order to collect flowers/fruits and twigs. The specimens are stored in the WAN herbarium nearby Samboja, which is now part of the IKN area and others are distributed to various other herbaria like Herbarium Bogoriense, National Herbarium of the Netherlands, Leiden, Kew, etc.
The Herbarium Wanariset has been established in 1989 by the Rijksherbarium Leiden, part of Leiden University (in association with the Tropenbos foundation, The Netherlands) and the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
